Welcome to the
2008 Lincoln & Lincolnshire International Chamber Music Festival
“Home and Abroad”.
During the last few years much of my time has been spent exploring and recording repertoire that was composed in Britain during the 20th Century, much of which has, in recent decades, fallen into neglect. It’s a great pleasure for me to extend this personal interest into the programming of LICMF, and I’m particularly delighted that a number of seldom heard gems will receive much deserved performances.
"I believe the best way to present repertoire which has been overlooked or undiscovered it to give it a context: consequently most of our concerts this year will feature at least one substantial work by a British composer along with pieces by international composers who proved to be of significant influence. Not only does this provide a wonderful mixture of music, both familiar and unfamiliar, but it will also help in our attempts to demonstrate the development of some of our finest homegrown composers.
This year’s theme has also given us the opportunity to expand our programme into alternative genres. Jazz, folk music, choral music and brass bands all play significant roles in the musical culture of the UK, and all will make their first appearances at LICMF.
I remain indebted to all those who work behind the scenes to ensure this special event continues to thrive. We look forward to welcoming another group of wonderful artists to Lincolnshire, and hope you, our loyal and supportive audience, will join us for what we believe is an exciting and innovative programme as we celebrate LICMF’s 5th Birthday.
